Discover the Slow Charm of Kampot, Cambodia
Kampot City – A Peaceful Escape
Just three hours from Phnom Penh and a short drive from Sihanoukville and Vietnam, Kampot offers a calm, laid-back atmosphere. The city’s grid-like streets are perfect for walking, with wide roads, colourful flowers, and towering shrubs. Unlike busy tourist spots, Kampot’s streets feel quiet and relaxed.
Along the eastern edge, the Praek Tuek Chhu river and Damrei Mountains provide scenic views. Colonial-era buildings with French-style balconies hint at the city’s past, while hip cafés and vintage shops add a modern touch. Tree-lined boulevards, charming restaurants, and stunning scenery make Kampot a must-visit.
Kampot Countryside – Agriculture and History
Kampot has a rich agricultural history, producing salt, pepper, rubber, and durian. Despite its tragic past under the Khmer Rouge, the province remains a thriving agricultural heartland.
Kampot Pepper – La Plantation
Kampot pepper is world-famous. In 2013, a French couple, Nathalie Chaboche and Guy Porre, started La Plantation, a 20-hectare organic pepper farm. With 100 local staff, their pepper is exported globally to Europe, Japan, and the US.
Visitors can explore the farm, see 22,000 pepper posts, and taste different varieties of pepper. La Plantation also supports reforestation projects and a local school, showing a commitment to the community.
Travel from Kampot
Kampot’s location makes it ideal for exploring Cambodia and Vietnam. Nearby, you can visit caves, national parks, and Kep’s seaside with its famous seafood. Sihanoukville is close for island trips, and ferries from Vietnam’s Ha Tien port go to Phu Quoc.
